Success replacing DQC-401 catalyst of Sinopec Co. was carried out in spherilene process of linear light polyethylene unit at Jam Petrochemical Complex in cooperation with R&D and Process and Exploitation units.
According to Jam Petrochemical Complex public relations, Mr. Reza Rashedi, manager of Jam Petrochemical Complex R&D unit, in a talking with the complex public relations said: success replacing DQC-401 catalyst of Sinopec Co. was carried out in spherilene process of linear light polyethylene unit at Jam Petrochemical Complex in cooperation with R&D and Process and Exploitation units.
He adds: there was broken supplying catalyst through Buzzle Co. from 2010 because of boycotts and applying the considered limitations as well as lack of bounding Buzzle Co. to joint commitments. Therefore, there was considered providing the mentioned catalyst by replacing new produced polyethylene catalysts to prevent the resulted losses from lack of providing catalyst and wasting high volume of the accomplished investment. As a result, Jam Petrochemical Complex engineers and experts looked to find a solution to solve the problem by wide studies and experiments, in order to turn the applied boycotts against the complex. In this direction, replacing C-MAX 120 catalyst in linear light polyethylene unit was carried out at 2011.
About plan of success replacing and using C-MAX 120 catalyst of SUD CHEMIE Co., he said: the plan resulted to in-service LLDPE unit again in production circle, but the produced products based C-MAX 120 catalyst had limitations operationally as well as morphologic specifications in comparison with catalysts under Buzzle brand (Z-212 and Z-213).
By pointing out lowering average particles dimension (A.P.D) in comparison with Buzzle catalysts, he said: clog potential by presenting fine powders in some sections of the process as well as produced wastes in input to grading section were increased considerably.
Then he pointed out special importance of catalyst in comparison with other used chemical materials in polymeric units, dependency on a source by considering order and purchase processes, delaying possibility of providing catalyst and as a result, lack of production. He said: the lost profit of LLDPE unit because of delaying in each day is about 280.000 $/DAY. Therefore, DQC-401 catalyst of Synopack Co. was selected as similar option structurally with Buzzle brand, in order to develop number of providers, exit from single pole supply resource, improve process conditions and limitations of previous catalyst. Morphologic analysis results of catalyst base (PSD ، Pore Volume ، BET), kinetic experiments in HD grades’ reactions as well as catalyst break behavior represented behavior similarity of the mentioned catalyst with Buzzle brand catalyst. The complex engineers and experts carried out industrial tests on DCQ-401 to produce target grades (HD-60505UV and HD-52518) successfully based on the considered program in September, after holding many sessions to technical evaluate structural requirements and predict the catalyst operational feedback and by considering to the delay for providing C-MAX 120 catalyst. As a result, providing DQC-401 catalyst from Synopack Co. with C-MAX 120 catalyst from SUD CHEMIE Co. was considered as the replace catalyst in the program.
