Following the publication of untrue, incomplete and misleading reports concerning the “dismissal of restaurant workers”, the company's public relations office brings the following to the attention of the media and the public, in order to clarify matters, inform public opinion and expressly deny the claims made:
- After several years, Jam Petrochemical's restaurant and kitchen are now run in-house. This change of structure was made with the aim of improving the quality of service, optimising costs and creating lasting benefits for the complex's esteemed retirees, and it has brought considerable profit for stakeholders. Accordingly, the contract with the Tabkh-e Maedeh contracting company has ended, and that independent company's cooperation with Jam Petrochemical has come to a close.
- In legal and contractual terms, all the workers employed in the restaurant section were under direct contract to, and paid by, the Tabkh-e Maedeh contracting company, and decisions about ending their employment fall entirely within that contractor's responsibility and legal obligations. Jam Petrochemical has had no employment obligation towards personnel in contracted sections outside its own organisational chart; attributing these personnel decisions to Jam Petrochemical, and using alarming expressions such as “the dismissal of Jam Petrochemical's workforce”, is therefore entirely at odds with the legal facts and with the provisions of labour law.
- Despite having no legal or contractual obligation to take on these workers, Jam Petrochemical took an unprecedented step in order to discharge its social responsibilities, safeguard the livelihoods of honourable local families and give firm support to local employment: more than 90 percent of the personnel of the Tabkh-e Maedeh contracting company, who were local to the region, were taken into the Jam Petrochemical organisation so that their job security would be fully and durably preserved.
- The remaining individuals, for whom this was not possible, are all non-local workers whom it was not legally possible to take on, given the rules and restrictions approved by the Pars Special Economic Energy Zone Organisation under labour and employment law, which give absolute priority to the employment of local people.
- While regretting the slanted narratives of certain media outlets, framed with the aim of damaging the company and alarming the public, Jam Petrochemical expects media professionals to obtain and reflect the company's official position before publishing any claim. Jam Petrochemical has always regarded itself as bound by the law, by the protection of stakeholders' rights and by support for the region's local workforce, and it reserves its legal right to pursue unfair reporting through the courts.
