HDPE
HDPE Unit
Jam Petrochemical's HDPE unit, licensed by LYONDELL BASELL with basic engineering by KRUPP UHDE and producing 300,000 tonnes a year, is one of Iran's largest polymer units. Alongside its ability to make 26 principal grades, it can produce black, yellow, blue, orange and natural grades — a capability unique to Jam Petrochemical within Iran and uncommon worldwide.
Jam Petrochemical's HDPE unit is the first producer of black CRP100 (pipe) grade in Iran.

A brief description of the production process
The unit divides into two main sections, polymerisation and pelletising. The catalyst is first prepared in the preparation section and enters the polymerisation area and the reactors together with the feed — ethylene, hydrogen, butene and hexane, the medium in which the polymerisation reaction takes place. In the first two reactors the reaction runs either in parallel or in series, depending on the grade.
In this reaction ethylene is the monomer, butene-1 the comonomer that sets the density, H2 controls the molecular weight or chain length, and TEAL activates the catalyst. After the first reactors, the suspension stream enters a third reactor for the final reactions, and conversion at its outlet reaches about 99 percent. Hexane is separated from the polymer powder by centrifuge and returned to the distillation area for purification. The wet powder leaving the process is sent to a fluid-bed dryer and then transferred to the extrusion section, where the necessary additives turn it into polyethylene pellets. With two separate extrusion lines, this section can produce granules in a variety of colours.
