Olefin
Olefin Unit
With a capacity of 1,320,000 tonnes of ethylene and 306,000 tonnes of propylene a year, and total products amounting to 2,359,000 tonnes a year, Jam Petrochemical's olefin unit is one of the largest olefin units in the country and the world. Current technologies were used in building the unit, and world scale was observed in choosing its capacities.
Features of the olefin unit
- Among the characteristics that set the olefin unit of the Jam petrochemical complex apart from comparable units are its high production capacity and its dual-purpose (flexible) furnaces, which allow it to use both liquid and gas feedstock.
- Feedstock variety, a varied product slate and links with the important units of the South Pars region in both the gas and the petrochemical sectors are further strategic characteristics of the olefin unit at the Jam petrochemical complex.
Products of the olefin unit
Ethylene, propylene, hydrogen, raw pyrolysis gasoline, CFO fuel oil and C4 compounds
The unit's feed comprises gas feedstock (ethane) and liquid feedstocks of various kinds, including LPG, light cut, raffinate, pentane cut, recycled propane and recycled hydrogenated C4 cut. The liquid feedstock is supplied by Noori Petrochemical; part of the gas feedstock comes from phases 4, 5, 9 and 10 of South Pars and part from Pars Petrochemical. In the olefin unit's liquid and gas furnaces, an endothermic reaction cracks the hydrocarbons in the presence of steam. The stream leaving the furnaces is quenched, the water and the CFO product are separated, and it is then compressed in the cracked gas compressor; after various cooling stages, valuable products including ethylene, propylene, C4 compounds and pyrolysis gasoline are separated out. The products are then sent to the consuming units or to storage as required.
